What Kotorro Does
Kotorro is a macOS application that reads selected text aloud using premium AI voices. You select text in any app, press a keyboard shortcut, and hear it spoken through a floating player.
Information We Collect
Account Information — When you create an account, we collect your email address and basic profile information through our authentication provider. This is used to manage your account and subscription.
Text You Read — When you use Kotorro, the selected text is sent to our servers to generate speech audio. We do not permanently store the text content. It is processed in real-time and discarded after the audio is generated.
Usage Data — We track aggregate usage (word counts) to manage trial limits and display your reading history. Reading history entries include the first few words of text and a timestamp, stored in your account.
Payment Information — Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details. Stripe handles all payment data according to their own privacy policy.
Analytics — We use PostHog to understand how people use our website and app. This includes page views, feature usage, and general interaction patterns. We do not sell this data to third parties.

Third-Party Services
We use the following services to operate Kotorro:
- Authentication — For account sign-in and session management
- Stripe — For payment processing and subscription management
- PostHog — For product analytics
- Speech Synthesis — For converting text to audio. Text is sent to our AI voice provider for processing and is not retained by them after generation.
Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.
Data Retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Aggregate analytics data that cannot identify you may be retained longer.
Your Rights
You can:
- Access the data we have about your account
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your reading history

Cookies
Our website uses cookies for authentication sessions and analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies from third-party ad networks.
Children
Kotorro is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
